The day started out normal, picked up Shelleen and headed out to the Wewahootee Vigilance Committee’s monthly match. It was guess what, HOT, again, in Florida who would have thought it. Overcast for the first 4 stages and sun shining for the last 2. If you don’t know, there is nothing like leaving your long guns on the loading table in the Florida sun before you shoot the stage. Your guns get a little toasty. At least it didn’t rain on us.
The match started out normal, however it ended a little different this time. Doc Ironhorse always has a good match and this was no different. The stages were good and fast and I think everyone that was there would agree. The teardown was faster though.
This is where thing get a little different, we started shooting and I was playing my game. Trying to have 6 smooooooth stages. I struggled with my rifle and could not get a rhythm going but my pistols were decent and my shotgun as well. HOWEVER when the smoke cleared, and the match was in the bag, they read the top 10 and when they got to 1st they said my name. It was my first 1st place overall win. So, I got up early, drove for a couple hours and soaked my cowboy clothes with sweat….. It was still better than a REALLY good day at work.

Just retuned from Ambush at Cavern Cove, the Alabama State Championship. Shot clean averaged 19.4 seconds for 10 stages. Would/should have been 18.4 seconds but for a 10 second rifle reload (literally) on
