In the spot light this week is Sue Render. If ya shot a big match in the SE or around SC then you probably met her or heard her name a few times. Specially for the 87 side match award

Where do you live? (what state or country)
South Carolina

When did you start shooting CAS and how did you or who got you into the sport?

I've been shooting CAS with my husband, Kid Ray, since 2010. He started about 6 months before I did and kept asking me to come out and watch a match. I finally did and met some great people. One of the lady shooters, Carolina Girl, was the final hook to get me started.

Who was your mentor, either known to them or not?

Kid Ray. He taught me the rules, how to safely handle and shoot the guns, and has encouraged me from the beginning.

How much do you practice, how many rounds a month do you send down range?

We try to practice at least once a week (when we have enough daylight) and we shoot almost every weekend. I send about 600+/- rounds down range a month.

Have you won any state, regional, national or world championships?

I've won overall lady at a couple of state matches; SC, NC, and NJ

Tell us about your most memorable match:
The next one I go to. They are all so much fun!

What is your favorite aspect of CAS?

The people!

Is there a story behind your alias, and what is that story?
Not much of a story, I wanted a play on words name. The alternate names I had were Celia Fate and Bev Ridge.

Do you have a travel/shootin buddy? (you know that friend that makes this game what it is)

My sweet hubby, Kid Ray.

Where is your favorite place to shoot? (range or match past or present)

I love them all! No way I could choose one.

What category do you shoot?

Aged based category, but I must tell you that I do wait a couple of years before moving up a category :)

Have you tried other categories? What categories have you shot and how did that go? Have tried gunfighter, duelist, and outlaw. I'll stick to age based.

What is you posse job of choice?

Picking up brass or score keeper.

What is the time of your fastest clean stage?

I don't remember the exact time but it was in the 16 second range.

What was the best advice you got from a fellow shooter, and who was it?

Edisto Ike told me many years ago at the SE Regional that if I ever wanted to improve in this game I need to switch from my 87 to a double barrel. It kinda rubbed me the wrong way and made me more determined to do well with my 87.

What advice can you give to some of the shooters reading this?

Have fun and enjoy every match you are able to shoot.

Is there that one rival that delivers a little extra sting when they beat you?
If I did, I wouldn't say it here.

What keeps you playing this game?

Because I enjoy it and I get to play this game with my husband.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not on the range or shooting? Spending time with my family and friends.

This photo is spectacular with the brass in the air and the cloud cover. Love the black and white, however, knowing Sue Render her attire is very colorful and fantastic. Wonderful Blog! Thank you for sharing.

I would have paid good money to see someone tell Sue “you really need to get rid of that 87!! I agree with Realtree, that is one of the best Cowboy pictures I’ve seen.
