For this week’s Shooter Spotlight, we’re back down south to Florida. I am lucky to get to shoot with this young lady even though watching her run her shotgun makes me feel like less of a man. She is part of The Cracker Crew and you have probably seen her videos. Let see what Hawkeye Gin had to say.

The “Ides of Marvember” Florida State Championship 2020 was my first “big” match and two unexpected things happened to me during those two days. The first was a disappointing one (and is documented in my video of the match) but the second was a fun one.
I had never been to a SASS-related banquet, but had a general idea that I needed to dress up a little bit so I scrounged around my closet and Amazon Prime to piece together an outfit that vaguely coordinated and seemed appropriate for the them...

This spotlight and the next are going to focus on fairly new shooters. Midwest Hale has been at it for about 3 years now and has come a long way rather quickly. Go to We The People Munnitions and use the code Hale5 for 5% off your order. I'm sure her sponsors would appreciate that. Lets dive in and see what she had to say.

I thought I would try something different this month with the blog and do a shooter spotlight. I figured we could pick a member and ask a few questions to get to know them better. If Y'All like it, we can do it once or twice a month. Let me know in the comments if you think this is fun and who you would want to see in the spotlight. This month is Santa Fe River Stan, a Florida cowboy and member of The Cracker Crew. A crack pot and a crack shot. Here is what he had to say.
When did you st...

If you have shot a big annual match or some of the monthlies here in Florida, you have probably met my pal. He is the spirit of this game, always happy to see ya and has his merry band of tree huggers. We pointed the spotlight at Realtree this week. This is what he had to say.

Dark Day on The Santa Fe 2021 was another successful match from Confederate Colt and the gang at the Ft. White Gun Club. There is a long list of people that are essential to making that match what it is and we thank you all. Everyone worked hard all week to pull it off again. They always make you feel like family with the match and all the festivities. Sure Shot Shawanda’s cinnamon rolls were just right for the cool mornings of the match and Laura and Bucky’s chili warmed us up Friday night. I k...

2022 Single Action Shooting Society Florida State Championship
What a great time this was! I spent it with my second family, the Cracker Crew, and my third family the Carolina Gang! This weekend did not disappoint with lots of fast shooting, jokes, big belly laughs, good-natured banter, life lessons, and memories we will cherish forever. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my St Patty’s weekend.

I am born and raised in Jupiter, the hometown of Burt Reynolds, along the southeast coast of the great Sunshine State known as Florida. Home of the very first cowboys in North America and of the infamous Florida Cracker Cow Hunters like Bone Mizell. Jupiter is about an hour southeast from the very first cattle ranch ever in the U.S. near Yeehaw Junction in central Florida.
Jupiter is in northeastern Palm Beach County and about 20 miles north o...

I am going to start by thanking the pards that put together a well-organized and fun event. Buck D. Law, Barkeep Casey, Iron Head Smith, Drake Robey, Branchwater Jack, Greywolf Tate, Toolman and Reno Mustang. I didn’t see any of these guys stop while on the range or at the awards. Here is a link to the shooter book if you want to check it out. Range Wars Episode V The Rustlers Strike Back The stories and starting lines were fun. Outstanding job you guys and I personal cannot wait for episode VI....

Now that the smoke has somewhat settled and I have had a little time to decompress, I would like to share my thoughts on this past weekend's Annual Match. This was the first time I had been so heavily involved in planning and hosting a match this big. Let me tell you what, I learned a lot of lessons!

This blog was inspired by a question I received from Camo Cowboy on Action Shooting Network. “Question for you? Is there info on the types of stages? I am wanting to practice and being new my only set back is learning the stages and how to shoot them. Working on transitions like you show and smoothness. Practicing in garage with fake stands and tables set up.”

So far in the month of August, Chickie and I have shot three matches. Each one had the same overall lesson. "Shoot the stage in front of me." Bucky Buckskin, Arcadia Outlaw, Christian Mortician, Shelleen, Cypress Sam, Fireball, Delta Glen, and Santa Fe River Stan have all said something similar to me at least once this month. You’d think I would have learned my lesson in less than 16 stages, but I did not.

I shoot with CAS Clubs all over the Sunshine State. I am from Southeast Florida where our mean winter low is 41° and, hence, why so many people retire to this area. Summer dress code is always a hot topic down here which is debated in person, on social media, and the wire ad infinitum. Let’s face it, Florida has an extreme blend of heat, humidity, and unrelenting sun not found in many other places. Are there locales that are hotter temperature wise? Of course. Are their regions that posses...

What can I say about the crew that came together to pull of one of the most fun matches that I have attended, that has not been said before? Let me try. Thank you, Arcadia Outlaw and Greta D, for keeping the fire burning for the 2020 Ides. Arcadia Outlaw wrote excellent stages and Greta D kept the ship pointed in the right direction. With all the crazy stuff going on in the world these days I know it was stressful to even think about and try to plan for. You guys pulled it off, well done. De...
